Dr. James Banks is honored by the Florida Radiological Society
Dr. James Banks, MD, at IntelliRad Imaging, was awarded the prestigious 20th Annual Douglas N. Hornsby, M.D. Leadership Award at the 2025 Annual Meeting hosted by the Florida Radiological Society (FRS) & Florida Radiology Business Management Association (Florida RBMA).
Named after Dr. Douglas N. Hornsby, former president of FRS, the award recognizes exceptional leadership, particularly in efforts that empower, support, and mentor residents and fellows within FRS.
The award is a tribute to Dr. Hornsby, honoring his pivotal role in launching the Resident and Fellow Section and his broader contributions to FRS. It celebrates individuals who go above and beyond to champion the involvement and growth of trainees.
Dr. Banks completed his radiology residency at the University of Miami with a mini-fellowship in neuroradiology and served as chief resident. He subsequently completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at Mayo Clinic Florida before joining IntelliRad Imaging in 2018.
Since working with IntelliRad Imaging, Dr. Banks spearheaded Nova Southeastern University’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD) radiology education program to ensure that medical students received specialized and dedicated education in the field of radiology. As a result of this project, all M.D. students at NSU participate in 30-day clinical rotations at IntelliRad’s partner hospitals in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties, where they shadow our radiology physicians.
This has led to an increase in the number of graduating M.D. students at NSU matching into radiology residency programs. Dr. Banks also served as the Clerkship Director for NSU MD’s radiology clinical rotation from 2020 to 2025.
